Português: Arquipélago (1952)" António Manuel de Sousa Aragão Mendes Correia (São Vicente, ilha da Madeira, 21 set. 1921; Funchal, 11 ago. 2008). Filho de Henrique Agostinho Aragão Mendes Correia e de Maria José de Sousa, frequentou o Liceu Jaime Moniz, a Escola Superior de Belas Artes e licenciou-se em Ciências Históricas-Filosóficas pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, tendo, em 1960, estagiado em Paris e Roma, onde frequentou ateliers de restauro. Em 1946, António Aragão ganhara o 2º prémio dos Jogos Florais da Madeira com o poema: “Presentemente“, tendo depois integrado com outros autores o grupo português de poesia experimental, a partir da década de 60 e, desde muito novo, se dedicou também à pintura. Desde 1972 e até à década de 80 foi diretor do Arquivo Regional da Madeira, anteriormente designado Arquivo Distrital do Funchal, fazendo também parte da comissão diretiva do Museu da Quinta das Cruzes e sido professor da cadeira de História da Arte na Academia de Música e Belas-Artes da Madeira. Deixou interessante obra pública escultórica na Madeira e no Porto Santo, ilustrou a obra Canhenhos da Ilha, de Horácio Bento Gouveia (1901-1983), 1966 e deixou ainda obra historiográfica, com especial referência para o Funchal. |
