Former Captain Makes Army His Career, Reenlists for ETO. Elmer R. Gorman, first of The Jersey Journal staff to enlist in the army even before war broke out, is today back in the army for good. The former captain reenlisted recently at the Jersey City recruiting office as a master sergeant. His present "hitch" in the service will last three years and he has chosen the European theater as his scene of duty. Sergeant Gorman, husband of the former Bernice Dahlstrom, resides on 211 Neptune Avenue. The couple have two children, a daughter, 2 years, and a little boy, six months old. Gorman worked for The Jersey Journal as a display advertisement solicitor when he enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard on September 5, 1940. He served as company clerk at Camp Dix for some time and during his stay there contributed a regular column on Hudson County soldiers' doings at the camp. He served with the 119th Quartermaster Regiment until August, 1942, when he attended chemical warfare OCS at the Edgewood Arsenal. Upon graduation from OCS with the rank as second lieutenant, he was assigned to the 830th Chemical Company, with which unit he served until his separation on March 6. last. Gorman plans to remain. in the army until retirement. Upon his transfer to duty with the European occupation forces, his family is expected to join him. Two other former Jersey City servicemen reenlisted at the same time as Gorman. They are Guilio Jerry Calicchio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Calicchio, 97 Palisade Av., who served four years with the 473rd Infantry Regiment, and Peter J. Franco, 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Franco. 102 Fairmount Avenue. Franco has eight years service and was last discharged as a staff sergeant. New Record Set. A new record was established at the local army recruiting offices in the Main Post Office building, Montgomery Street, and 40 Journal Square, this past week when 16 17-year-old youngsters enlisted in the new regular army for their first "hitch." The 16, sworn in by Major Arnold D. Blair, are: Thomas F. O'Brien, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. O'Brien. 18 Condict Street; Kenneth C. McGill, son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. McGill, 243 Princeton Av.; John P. Van Glahn, son of Mrs. Veronica Van .Glahn, 181 3rd Street; Robert J. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Johnson, 136 Coles St.; Adam J. Nadolski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Nado Isla, 381 Grand Street; Edward F. Drzewiecki, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Drzewiecki, 511 Jersey Avenue; Eugene Witkowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Witkowski, 297 Pavonia Avenue; Henry Bramowicz, son of Mrs. Rose Brarnowicz, 208 2nd Street; Anthony Joseph Cardicilo, 343 Railroad Avenue; Zygmunt Pniewski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Pniewski, 200 9th Street; Richard Daisy, son of Mrs. Joyce Riley, 150 Highland Avenue; James Patrick Boyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Boyle, 139 Stegman Avenue; Ernest O. Donato, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Donato, 54 Center Street; Desmond Shanley, son of Michael Shanley, 215 Lexington Avenue, for the air corps; Louis Philip Giunta, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Giunta, 146 Bentley Avenue, and Warren Nelson, son of Gustof Nelson, 206 Armstrong Avenue. Three other 17-year-old youngsters who enlisted previously at the local recruiting station are: James Francis Fulloon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fulloon, 353 2nd Street; James Francis Dunn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brain, 8 Huron Avenue, and Arthur Oscar Freudenberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Freudenberg, 309 Central Avenue. Others, 18 and over, who enlisted in the same period included: Henry Holland, Jr., son of Mrs. Louise Perry, 10 Westervelt Place; John W. Ryan, son of John Ryan, 221 Belvidere Avenue; Michael M. Yanak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Yansk, 208 Sip Avenue; Nicholas Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rice, 385 Sip Avenue; Frank H. Kovacs, George Orth, Vladimir Zazula, son of Mr. Anthony Zazula, 288 Grand Street; and John Dmowski, 324 Woodward Street.
