Description |
English: Illustration with pencil and colors. There are grey buildings with small houses depicting a neighborhood. The words 'Jackson Square' are on top of it. There are train tracks and a train also on top of the image, a sun on the right side, and lines with words under. The words read: el mundo newspaper, tails pet supplies, blue nile fat rams, alex chimis fernandez, and other word that are cut off, signifying names of businesses at the neighborhood. Latino Heritage Internship Programs interns in 2022 were asked to create artwork to expand the awareness and appreciation of Latino contributions to the United States, and their time as interns at the National Park Service. This artwork was created by Pia Cano, who stayed near Boston and worked at the Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation. “This project highlights Latinos in Boston and the sense of place they have created in Jackson Square. I wanted to incorporate an abstract representation of the footprint of their neighborhood, capturing what it is like to explore this space.”
