Description
English: On September 13, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a beautiful true-color image featuring much of Asia Minor.

Asia Minor historically sits on the Anatolian Peninsula, the westernmost extension of Asia. The boundaries are roughly the Black Sea in the north, the Mediterranean Sea in the south, and the Aegean Sea in the west. The land of Asia Minor comprises most of modern-day Turkey. In this image, the Black Sea can be seen in the northwest, with the Sea of Azov north of that. The Mediterranean Sea sits in the southwest, surrounding the island of Cyprus. The dark green coasts of Asia Minor contrasts with the tan, rugged interior.

Other notable features seen in this image is the Caspian Sea in the northeast and the long, rugged peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. In the south, the arid lands of the Arabian Peninsula are colored in light tan and orange. The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers feeds vegetation that colors much of Iraq light green as it carries water into the Persian Gulf.
