Description
Nederlands: Na de Turkse nederlaag bij Wenen in 1683 stortte het Turkse rijk in Europa langzaam ineen. Van alle kanten werden de Turken aangevallen. In 1686 veroverden Venetiaanse legers onder leiding van Francesco Morosini grote delen van Zuid-Griekenland en de Peloponnesos. Gedurende deze veroveringsoorlog werd ook de stad Nauplia plaats. Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) legde de verovering van deze stad op de Turken op deze plaat vast.; Onderaan de prent twee teksten over 3 kolommen: Beschryving van de Stadt NAPOLI di ROMANIA en Partinent en Naukeurig Verhaal van de Verovering van NAPOLI DI ROMANIA.
English: After the Turkish defeat near Vienna in 1683 the Turkish Empire in Europe fell more or less apart. The Turks were attacked from all sides. In 1686 the Venetian army led by Francesco Morosini occupied large territories in the Peloponnesos. During this war the city of Nauplia was conquered. Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) engraved this conquest of the city.
