Title
Awl
Description
English: Flint awl formed on a blade that is sub-rectangular in plan, although with an offset point at the distal end, convex-concave in profile and sub-triangular in section. On the dorsal face, the left margin is sharp but ragged. The distal point is offset towards the left. Cortex along the right margin provides backing. There is a small notch on the upper right margin and a wider, shallower notch on the lower right margin. The sharp point suggests that one of its uses was as an awl. The flint is dark grey with a rust-coloured patch. There is primary cortex and it is likely to have derived from a local beach pebble.

Butler (2005) shows a similar example on page 129, Fig. 54, Number 1.
