Title
b&t34.jpg
Description
English: Roman bell-shaped stud (or possibly a lock pin?) made from copper alloy and probably dating to 1st century. The stud is circular in plan and has the remains of an sub-square iron shank in one end. The other end widens out (like a bell) and has a central boss which projects below the bottom of the ‘skirt’ part of the stud. The stud has concentric rings around the central boss and has evidence of gilding. The stud weighs 23g and measures 20.41mm in thickness, and 25.7mm in width (across the front of the stud). A similar example can be seen in the Roman Castleford excavation report, Fig.22, No.239.
