Description
English: A complete Post Medieval cast copper alloy Crotal Bell, circa AD1600 - AD1850. The bell is spherical with a square suspension loop at the top which has a perforation 4.4mm in diameter. In the upper half of the bell chamber there are two sound holes opposite each other, their diameters 3.5mm. At the base of the bell is a moulded slit 34mm in length, with a circular enlargement at each end of 6.9mm diameter. Also at the base is a makers mark of two "V"'s facing one another either side of the slit. The bell's surface has a curvilinear "petal" or 'sunburst' design and internally it retains its iron pea. Its general condition is good and it measures 43.4mm in height, is 34.6mm in diameter and weighs 52.4g.
