Description |
English: A Roman copper alloy plate brooch with a lozenge shaped central plate and two projecting lugs. The lugs are moulded with decorative reels and rounded ends, and carry the hinge and catchplate on their reverse. The plate itself has a raised edged with simple incised decoration, around a recessed field with a raised circular frame in the centre. These areas may have once held enamel inlay. Traces of a now lost iron pin remain at the hinge on the reverse. Circa 2nd century AD. |
