Title
BUCKLE
Description
English:

An incomplete cast copper alloy D shaped single loop buckle dating to the period AD c.1250-AD c.1450

The frame of the buckle does not taper, and stays the same width and thickness. The pin does move freely 180 degrees from the buckle and its attachment. The entire buckle remains undecorated, but the frame uniquely dips itself inwards at the back and then protruded outwards to create the pin bar. Only a fragment of the pin survives, but it is evident that in order to stay intact, the material was wrapped around the back bar. Despite this, the pin does freely move across the bar, and fully around and 360 degrees.

Overall, the buckle is 17.77mm in length (excluding pin), 18.00mm in width and weighs 1.57g.

A parallel to this buckle can be found in Whitehead (2003) "Buckles"page 19, No. 53. According to Whitehead (2003), this, and other buckles manufactured in this period were utilised for personal dress, and the reason why the frame was designed it such a way, is because it provided a better, and tidier fit.
