Summary

[edit]
Description
English: One of Bach's most famous works, the Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor (BWV 582) centers around an iconic bass line first played by organ foot pedals (by our accordionist Hank). The passacaglia tune is repeated 21 times with increasingly intricate variations around it when, just as it seems to be reaching an apocalyptic conclusion, it launches into a lively and often joyful fugue on the same tune. Hank is playing a beautiful contrabass accordion which allows him to hit those outright nasty low C's!

This recording is from the quartet's debut performance on November 20, 2022, at the art studio Persona in Brooklyn.

The Melodica Drone & Bach Quartet is Andrew Yoon (https://andrewyoon.art), Lili Tobias (linktr.ee/lilifae), Lara Lewison, and accordionist Hank Mason (https://hankthemason.com). Learn more about to quartet at https://mdbq.org.
