| Description |
The church dates from Norman times and has a 14th century western bell turret, nave, and chancel with north vestry. Only fragments of the 12th century fabric remain. In the 14th century the main door was repositioned at the west end. The church was substantially rebuilt in 1876 by Charles Kirk Jr, adding the chancel and rebuilding the eastern part of the nave. This gives the odd appearance of the higher roofline in the middle. The octagonal font dates from the 14th century. Fittings include a 19th-century pulpit, altar rail and chest, and the pews date from the 20th century. There is a painting of the Royal arms of 1739, and a couple of wall tablets. On the north wall of the nave there is a large painted commandment board. There is only a fragment of old stained-glass. A church organ was donated in 2005. Recently extensive work was necessary inside and outside the church. Additional wall writings were found and restored. |
