Português: Bateria de 70 do Forte de São Domingos de Gragoatá Campanha geral de 1680 a 1690 (c.) e seguintes. O quase único documento específico sobre esta fortificação é a Carta Régia de 17 de novembro de 1698, que manda pagar as obras ali realizadas por Pedro Gomes de Barros. As obras, entretanto, teriam sido deficientes e, em 1701, o vice-rei ter mandou proceder contra os empreiteiros por “falsificação das obras que haviam feito”. O forte deveria cruzar fogo com o Forte da Boa Viagem e o Forte Villegaignon. Sucessivamente ocupado e desocupado, chegou aos nossos dias em razoável estado de conservação e deve o seu nome à primitiva capela ali erguida em 1652, sob a invocação de São Domingos, atual igreja matriz de São Domingos e a praia anexa, por sua vez, denominada Gragoatá, planta também designada por caraguatá (Bromelia balansae) e muitos mais nomes da família a que pertence também o ananás e/ou abacaxi, como é conhecido no Brasil. Teve a última reformulação em 1863, conforme inscrição na porta de armas, por ordem do imperado D. Pedro II (1825-1891), tendo desempenhado depois um especial papel na Revolta da Armada de 1892-1893. |
