English: Image of beer revenue stamp, 25c, issue of 1867 Die proof of 1/4 barrel, 25-cent Beer Stamp, 1866 Issue. Printed by The Note Printing Division, Treasury Department. Issue is printed on white wove unwatermarked paper from plates of twenty subjects, five rows of four. Stamps were issued without gum or perforations. Brewers would cut stamps apart, apply cancellation and paste them over the opening in the beer barrel. Tapping the barrel destroyed the stamp. |
