Summary[edit]
DescriptionBenjamin Tannrath, Lieutenant, 1st Missouri Infantry (Union).jpg |
English: Tintype with subject standing in full uniform and sack coat with a breast pocket. He has a sword in one hand and binoculars in the other.
Tannrath’s rank insignia of 1 bar and the artillery insignia on his hat are clearly visible. Tannrath first enlisted with the 1st Missouri Infantry on Apr. 21, 1861 as a first lieutenant, but before the year ended was transferred to the 1st Missouri Artillery and promoted to captain. As indicated by the insignia, this image shows him as first lieutenant of the 1st Missouri Artillery before his promotion, despite the inscription, "Capt. B. Tannrath" written on the back of the image. Title: Benjamin Tannrath, Lieutenant, 1st Missouri Infantry (Union). |
