Description
Deutsch: Portalbereich und rechter Flügel der ehemaligen Kaserne des 3. Garde-Regiments zu Fuß in der Wrangelstraße 97-99 in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Der große Militärkomplex, der ursprünglich zwei weitere Gebäude nördlich der Wrangelstraße sowie das Exerzierhaus und die Speiseanstalt für Offiziere auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite umfasste, wurde 1874-1878 nach Entwürfen von Otto Heimerdinger erbaut und war der erste Militärneubau in Berlin nach dem Sieg im Deutsch-Französischen Krieg von 1870/71. Die anderen Bauteile wurden im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört. Das verbliebene Gebäude und ein moderner Bau auf der Rückseite werden heute vom Oberstufenzentrum Handel genutzt. Das ehemalige Kasernengebäude ist als Baudenkmal gelistet.
English: Portal and right wing of the former barracks of the 3rd Guard Regiment on Foot at Wrangelstraße No. 97-99 in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The large military complex, which originally consisted of two other buildings north of Wrangelstraße as well as the drill house and the officers' mess on the other side of the street, was built from 1874 to 1978 to designs by Otto Heimerdinger and was the first military complex built in Berlin after the victory in the German-French War of 1870/71. All other buildings were destroyed in WWII. The remaining building as well as a modern annex in the rear are now used by the Oberstufenzentrum Handel (Vocational School for Trade). The former military building has been designated as a cultural heritage monument.
