| Description |
English: Das MAN-Haus in Berlin-Mitte, Charlottenstraße 43 (rechts) / Mittelstraße (links); Das Gebäude wurde 1896-1897 nach einem Entwurf der Berliner Architekten Konrad Reimer und Friedrich Körte für den Verein Deutscher Ingenieure gebaut. Die alte Unterteilung des auf einem schmalen Grundstück errichteten Gebäudes in (ursprünglich an eine Bank) vermietete Geschäftsräume im Erdgeschoss und im 1. Obergeschoss sowie die Vereinsräume ab dem 2. Obergeschoss ist an der Fassade ablesbar. Durch den Erker an der Charlottenstraße und das ähnlich gestaltete dreibahnige Fenster an der Mittelstraße wird der Sitzungsaal im 2. Obergeschoss besonders hervorgehoben. Der Reliefschmuck der Fassaden stammt vom Bildhauer Gotthold Riegelmann und nimmt Bezug auf die Berufsfelder des Ingenieurs. Im Inneren ist die bauzeitliche Ausstattung zum Teil sehr gut erhalten, so im Treppenhaus und im Sitzungssaal. Das Gebäude wurde 1918 von der MAN gekauft und bis 1950 für ihr technisches Büro genutzt. Danach saß hier der Fachbereich Germanistik der Humboldt-Universität. Das Gebäude befindet sich seit 1993 wieder im Besitz der MAN, die es von 1993-1995 renovieren ließ und ihre Außenstelle Berlin hier einrichtete. Außerdem sitzt hier unter anderem das Berliner Büro des Afrika-Vereins der deutschen Wirtschaft. Das Gebäude steht unter Denkmalschutz. |
