Description
Deutsch: Das Geschäftshaus "Handelsstätte Friedrichstadt" in der Charlottenstraße 56, Ecke Taubenstraße, in Berlin-Mitte. Das an der Westseite des Gendarmenmarkt stehende Gebäude wurde 1906-1907 vom Architekten Hugo Sonnenthal errichtet. Er gehört zum modernen Typus des Berliner Geschäftsbaus mit Pfeilerfassade, der für die Zeit nach der Jahrhundertwende typisch war. Der Erker mit turmartigem Aufbau gibt dem Haus einen repräsentativen Anstrich. In dem Haus hat das traditionsreiche Weinlokal "Lutter & Wegner" seinen Sitz. Das Gebäude ist als Baudenkmal ausgewiesen.
English: The commercial building "Handelsstätte Friedrichstadt" at Charlottenstraße No. 56, corner of Taubenstraße in Berlin-Mitte. The building at the western side of Gendarmenmarkt was constructed 1906 to 1907 by architect Hugo Sonnenthal. Its an example of a commercial building with a modern columned facade, which became common in Berlin in the early 1900s. The oriel gives the building a representative appearance. The traditional wine restaurant "Lutter & Wegner" is located here. The building has been designated a historic landmark.
