Summary
English: The former department store "Moritz Mädler" at Friedrichstraße 56, corner of Leipziger Straße (on the left) in Berlin Mitte, built 1909 to a design by architect Robert Leibnitz. This is one of only four preserved historic commercial buildings on Leipziger Straße. The building originally had small shops on the ground floor. The rooms of the department store were above, behind the arches of the facade. The top stories were likely occupied by stoorage rooms. The facade ornaments by sculptor Richard Kühn include figures of craftsmen standing on engaged columns. The building is landmarked. |
