| Description |
Deutsch: "Städtisches Verwaltungsgebäude C" an der Stralauer Straße in Berlin-Mitte, errichtet 1936-1939 nach einem Entwurf von Richard Ermisch. Das mächtige Gebäude erstreckt sich fast blockumfassend zwischen Stralauer Straße, Klosterstraße und Rolandufer; es besitzt zwei Innenhöfe. Das Gebäude wurde als Teil des von den Nationalsozialisten geplanten städtischen "Verwaltungsforums" am Molkenmarkt rund um das Alte Stadthaus errichtet. In seiner monumentalen Strenge ist es ein typisches Beispiel der NS-Architektur. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg zum Teil stark beschädigt, wurde es in der Nachkriegszeit unverändert wieder aufgebaut. Heute befindet sich die Senatsverwaltung für Finanzen. Das Gebäude ist als Baudenkmal gelistet.
English: "Municipal Administration Building C" at Stralauer Straße in Berlin-Mitte, built 1936-1939 by architect Richard Ermisch. The voluminous complex with two yards almost occupies the whole block between Stralauer Straße, Klosterstraße and Rolandufer. It was conceived as part of the municipal "Administration Forum" the Nazis planned for the Molkenmarkt neighborhood around Altes Stadthaus. Both monumental and austere, it is a typical example of Nazi architecture. After heavy damage in WWII, it was rebuilt in the original form after the war. It is now seat of Berlin's Senate Department for Finances. The building has been designated as a historic landmark. |
