Seifert & Sons, 16-18, côte de la Fabrique, Québec « L'horloge est celle de la façade de la maison Simons située dans la côte de la Fabrique, horloge présente cependant bien avant que Simons prenne possession de l'édifice au tournant des années 1990. C'est vraisemblablement la bijouterie G. Seifert & Sons qui l'a installée. Gustavus Seifert quitte l’Allemagne et s’installe à Québec au début des années 1850. En 1857, il ouvre sa bijouterie. Elle est alors située sur la rue Couillard. Quelques années plus tard, il emménage dans la côte de la Fabrique. Son commerce est alors connu sous le nom d'European Bazaar. En 1900, il déménage dans un autre édifice de la même rue. Le malheur frappe au petit matin du 17 janvier 1930 alors que l'édifice est complètement détruit par les flammes. Son voisin Simons est épargné. Dès février, les descendants de Gustavus accordent un marché pour la reconstruction. C'est probablement à cette occasion que l’horloge est mise en place. » – Société historique de Québec |
