Title
Bird Feeder from Wickenby
Description
English:

Lead Alloy

Bowl. Cast flat-based miniature bowl. A drilled hole in the upper side of diameter 2mm may have been intended to secure the object. A series of notches runs along the rim about one third of the way around its circumference. Now dented on one side, and patinated overall. This object may be a water or food bowl for a caged bird, with provision to tie it to the cage bars. The weight of lead would help prevent the bowl being knocked over. The keeping of caged songbirds was common from Medieval times onwards. Suggested date: Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1300-1700.

Diameter: 51mm, Height: 16.7mm, Thickness: 3.7mm, Weight: 105.78gms.
