Black-shouldered Kite, Elanus axillaris +==================+ Interesting Aerodynamics. She is on a very fast tight turn on a light breeze. Like a marching drill team, the outside wing has to travel further and faster than the inside. To achieve the speed difference the inside wing feathers are opened for all the air to pass through and produce less lift. While the outstreched feet act like a pendulum. Inside one outstretched for drag the other closed clenched. |
