Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n B3-19-62 Built 1963. Served with 801,736 and 803 Naval Air Squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm before moving to the Royal Aircraft Establishment and then to the Royal Radar Establishment at RAF Pershore. In October 1976 she went back to the factory at Brough for use in ground instruction. She was later displayed by the Loughborough & Leicester Aircraft Museum at Castle Donnington before finally moving to Newark in March 1988. She has been restored to her genuine 736NAS markings, as she wore when based at Lossiemouth in the mid 1960’s. In March 1967 she took part in attacks on the ‘SS Torrey Canyon’. The LR2 Suezmax class oil tanker ran aground off Cornwall and began to break up. Buccaneers from 736NAS dropped 1,000lb bombs on the wreck with the intention of setting her and her cargo of oil on fire and preventing an environmental disaster.
