Boîte ronde en écaille brune, recouverte de vernis. Cerclée et ceinturée d'or. Doublure en écaille. Sur le couvercle, miniature à la gouache sur ivoire.

Description iconographique:

Cette boîte en écaille brune, cerclée d'or ciselé à motifs floraux, est recouverte de vernis avec un motif de quadrillage en bleu et blanc sur fond doré. Le couvercle est ornée d'une miniature : "Portrait de Billaud-Varenne" par Mme de Surigny. Commentaire historique:

La réalisation de la miniature se situe vers 1788-1791, si l'on en juge par le costume du modèle et l'inscription, en bas à droite : "M. DeSuriny / 1791" (la date, plus foncée que la signature, paraît rapportée). Personne / Personnage représenté: Billaud-Varennes, Jean-Nicolas
