Description |
Satire on the Napoleonic wars. (British political cartoon); John Bull kneels, offering a prayer to Peace. Beside her, in the centre of the composition, the eye of Providence shines on the bust of Napoleon, wreathed with laurel branches. A light shining from Napoleon drives away the demon Discord, in the person of Pitt, caricatured as a Medusa-like figure. His hair is serpents, and as he runs he drops daggers and steps over a broken lance.; Numbered in pencil: 53. Bee stamp |
