Description |
A child's view of bookbinding, 1802. This image and description of a bookbinder comes from a very rare series of boxed educational cards showing a variety of trades, and two explanatory miniature books. The card shows a woman at a sewing frame sewing a book, a binder ploughing the edge of a book and the master pasting out a cover for a book. The description mentions 'paper covers' – an increasingly popular binding style for children's books from the late eighteenth century. |
