c/n 32376(-DL). Full US Military serial ’44-83735’. The IWM B-17 has not worn it’s genuine military serial since leaving USAF service, until now!! Once demobbed, it served with IGN in France on surveying duties and flew as ‘F-BDRS’. It joined the IWM in the mid 1970’s when it was restored as ‘Mary Alice’ with the tail number ‘231983’. A full restoration in the late 2000’s saw her in an ‘as delivered’ scheme with no unit markings or name, and the tail number ‘238133’. She is now, finally, being given unit markings and also her genuine serial. She is seen in the Annex of the ‘Airspace’ Hangar (a.k.a Hangar 1) while the AAM building itself is refurbished.
