Title
Boer War: showing the work of the ambulance men and transpor
Description

Boer War: showing the work of the ambulance men and transport of the wounded. Process print after F. Theamen?

English: The transport of wounded from the field of battle: the work of the ambulance men. The four-wheeled heavy army regulation ambulances, which, designed for use with infantry, prove to be quite unsuited for the work required by rapidly moving mounted troops in South Africa. It has been found that one of the best ways of carrying the wounded, provided that they can sit up, is in panniers on mules. Mr. Manders, the medical officer of the 12th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, has invented a two-wheeled car constructed like a Cape cart, so that it can move as quickly as cavalry and can travel wherever artillery can go. With mules to bring them down the rocky heights, and a car to receive them, no time is lost in rendering the necessary assistance to the wounded.
