Bone awl.

In American Indian societies, women typically made clothing from deer, elk, and other animal hides. To stich hides together, they would use buffalo and other sinew like thread. Most needles could not puncture thick hide leather, however; therefore, they made and used bone awls like this one to create the necessary holes.
