Title
book fitting
Description
English: Cast copper alloy object, probably a book clasp. The clasp is rectangular in section and is broken at the clasp end. The other end has two V-shaped recesses creating a three-pointed jagged terminal. The decoration on both sides is the same. Both faces have an incised hashed perimeter enclosing an incised criss-cross design, and two incised inverted V's at the terminals of the V-shaped troughs. Similar incised designs can be found on the composite forked-spacer plated buckles of the mid 14th/early 15th century (for a detailed description and history of this form of buckle see: Dress Accessories, Museum of London, p80-82).
