English: Bow, violin, pernambuco wood slightly concave octagonal stick, brown leather thumb grip with coiled metallic thread lapping, ebony button with nickel silver bands, engraved pattern on each facet, moveable ebony frog, mother of pearl parisian eye and slide, silver nickel ferrule with engraved pattern, silver nickel back plate on frog with intricate engraved pattern, bone tip hatchet head. Interesting frog metal and button metal, decorative pattern unusual intended for display (CN) 1 violin bow maker unknown, European, 20th century pernambuco, ivory, ebony, nickel-silver, mother-of-pearl, length 745 mm, weight 55.6 g 1998.60.389 As bow-makers William E Hill and Sons, London are universally acknowledged as pre-eminent. Established in 1887, Hill also made violins and began making their own bows in the 1890s. This bow is distinguished by its unusual decorative silver-mount. |
