English: Presentation bowl, footed, silver, elaborate carvings depict Chinese scenes, delicately wrought dragons form the handles, flamingos and blossoms are worked into the bowl. Worked in Chinese silver and standing on a base on Chinese hard wood.Woshing, Shanghai, China, 1912 silver marked hallmark ‘SHANGHAI (character) WOSHING’ engraved on bowl ‘SHANGHAI -Feb. 1912- To Mr. and Mrs. Little- In memory of the very many kindnesses received- Tong Shoa-Yi- First Premier of the Republic of China’ This silver presentation bowl was given as a token of appreciation from a Chinese leader to a New Zealander in recognition for his part in the abdication of the Emperor Pu Yi and the formation of the Republic of China in 1912. |
