Then came the suggestion from Mr. G.Henry Nesslage, Scout Executive of Man-hattan Council, that the Scouts who hadshow^n interest in this field study of orni-thology, be organized into a special troop,which should become identified with theAmerican Museum of Natural History, aninstitution of w^hich New Yorkers are justlyproud, and all other Americans should be.That the oflficials of the Museum were favor-able to this proposal may be inferred fromthe fact that Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn,president of the trustees, agreed to permitthe troop to hold bi-weekly meetings in oneof the assembly halls of the museum building,and placed at its disposal all of the collectionswhich are under the direct charge of theEducational Department. Text Appearing After Image: YOUNG HERPETOLOGISTS (Members of this troop must identify and handle twoharmless snakes) which the members of the troop will holdthemselves in readiness to be of direct andpractical service to the museum in certainspecified ways, such as the following: (a) In acting as guides to bring blind personsto the museum building on the occasion of lec-tures or entertainments for them, and taking themhome again; (b) In acting as guides to explain to visitorscertain exhibits in the museum, with which thescouts become familiar as a result of their fieldwork in natural history; (c) In supplying and preparing material to beused in teaching natural history to blind children; (d) In collecting material for the School Na-ture League, under the direction of the museumsEducational Department, and (e) In preparing and repairing natural historyspecimens now in the possession of the museum,so that they will be suitable for use in the publicschools.
