Description |
Bridge at Oodooanulla, India. Coloured etching by William Hodges, 1787. This is plate 24 from William Hodges' book 'Select Views in India'. Udha Nullah is the name of both a village and a stream in Bihar. It gained notoriety among the British in 1763, when their forces, guided by Major Adams, defeated the Nawab of Murshidabad Mir Kasim here. The bridge was built in the 17th century by Sultan Sujah, the third son of the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. Hodges describes the bridge as: "one of the most elegant specimen in architecture of those times." Iconographic Collections |
