Description
English: Brittish sappers span the river Ronco
Under constant threat of German artillery and mortars dominating the banks of the river Ronco near Forlimpopoli. Brittish sappers worked at top speed to bridge the river, which is 180 feet wide at this point. Owin to the pressure of flood waters it was not possible to erect a centre pier to hold the bridge, and to overcome this engineers had to build what is known as a "Triple Double Panel" Bailey Bridge weighing approx. 98 ton. Picture shows a general view of the riverside, with the bridge under construction.
