Summary[edit]
DescriptionBuilding a Future of Freedom (7222921962).jpg |
"Building a Future of Freedom. After the Civil War, former slaves built a thriving town on the battlefield at Chalmette. They bought the land from a free man of color, Jean Pierre Fazende. In 1966, the National Park Service acquired the land to preserve the battlefield. Fazendeville’s people moved to other places, but they are still a community at heart."
