Grenzdurchgangslager Friedland

Rund 2,4 Millionen Menschen fanden nach Flucht, Vertreibung, Heimkehr aus der Gefangenschaft oder Aussiedlung von 1945 bis 1975 im Grenzdurchgangslager Friedland erste Hilfe und Betreuung.
Als am 8.5.1945 nach dem verlorenen II. Weltkrieg die Waffen schwiegen, wurde das im Grenzgebiet der sowjetischen, amerikanischen und britischen damaligen Besatzungszone gelegene kleine Dorf Friedland, südostwärts von Göttingen, zur Durchgangsstation für viele Menschen. Das ehemalige Versuchsgut der Universität Göttingen in Friedland war der bescheidene Ausgangspunkt für das heutige Lagerdorf mit allen notwendigen Sozialeinrichtungen und Hilfsdiensten. Auch heute noch (1982) ist Friedland für jährlich Tausende von Aussiedlern aus Osteuropa erste Anlaufstelle und Hoffnung.
