Title
burin
Description
English: A thick flat flake of cream patinated flint. It has broken to remove the proximal end, which has left a transversely pointed flake of symmetrical plan. There may be some original shallow retouch on the right oblique distal margin, with something similar on the ventral mesal edge of the opposite margin. Most of this edge from the distal end has been removed with a burin strike, leaving less strongly patinated light grey flint underneath. This second phase has been continued on the right ventral mesal margin with 3 bold semi-abrupt removals and on the corner opposite the remnant of pebble cortex on the proximal end. Here a steeply worked end scraper has been made where it meets the left margn.A Late Upper Paleolithic/Early Mesolithic blank with Later Mesolithic/Early Neolithic reworking is suggested. Butler(2005) illustrates a burin on page 111, fig 44,5.
