button (back)
Description
English: Cast copper alloy hollow-backed die-cut circular button with integral sub-square loop. The face of the button is engine engraved with a central sunburst pattern within two concentric circles, surrounded by eight moulded oval notches which define square raised areas between to look like rays or spokes. The edge of the button is then recessed before terminating in an everted border.

Bailey (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 72, Fig.9.257, which is dated to the 18th century.
