Medication chart: Cold damage, wind damage and heat ailments. From a manuscript copy ofShanghan diandian jin shu(The Gold-dust Book of Cold Damage) dated '1st year of the Zhengyuan reign period of the Yuan dynasty' (1341), section entitledShanghan diandian jin yongyao muji(Cold Damage Gold-Dust Repertory of Medication).The text states: To treat cold damage conditions, commonly used prescriptions are: Ephedra decoction (mahuang tang), Qi Normalizing ginseng powder (renshen shun qi san), scallion bulb powder (congbai san), Centre-Invigorating decoction of astragalus root (huangqi jian zhong tang), ephedra and arrowroot decoction (ge gen tang), atractylodes rhizome powder (cangzhu tang), '2 cassia twig: 1 spleen effusing' decoction (guizhi 2 yuepi 1 tang), etc.To treat wind damage conditions, commonly used prescriptions are: Cassia twig decoction and pueraria decoction (guizhi gange tang), decoction of angelica pubescens root (duhuo tang), cassia twig and aconite decoction (guizhi fuzi tang), Detoxicating powder (baidu san),Yang Dawn decoction (yang dan tang), etc.To treat heat conditions, commonly used prescriptions are: Sweat Inducing cassia twig decoction (han guizhi tang), cassia twig and gypsum decoction (guizhi shigao tang), cassia twig decoction (guizhi tang) together with gypsum, anemarrhena, cohosh and ephedra decoction (shigao zhimu mahuang shengma mahuang tang), etc.
