Deutsch: Wie verschiedene andere Engadiner Gemeinden führte Ftan aufgrund seiner Zugehörigkeit zum Gotteshausbund im Siegel bis ins 19. Jahrhundert den Steinbock. Das Wappenmotiv des Stierkopfs wurde gewählt mit Bezug auf eine chronikalische Überlieferung wonach die Bewohner dieser Gemeinde wegen ihrer kriegerischen Natur die «Stiere von Fetan» genannt worden seien. Die roten Sterne dienen der Unterscheidung vom Wappen des Kantons Uri.
