Nederlands: Dergelijke voorwerpen hangen aan gordels, samen met nog een veelheid aan kralen voorwerpen. De gordel, yet, kan gezien worden als een enorme bedelarmband. Hij wordt gedragen door voorname mannen en de koning, de Nyim. Hij bestaat uit een aantal traditionele instrumenten met bepaalde tekens in het kralenwerk en waardevolle schelpen. Onderhavig object doet denken aan de typische Kuba houtsnijwerken of textielpatronen (in Phillips, 1996:273). Volgens Meurant droegen ook vrouwen en andere leden van de koninklijke familie deze sieraden.
De kralen worden geassocieerd met het koninklijke. Sommige koningen dragen tot wel 50 van dergelijke bedels aan hun gordels. |
