Description
Nederlands: Het huis is ontworpen door de architect Tom Claridge en in 1884 gebouwd door Charles Clark. Het behoort tot een van de eerste huizen in Pretoria die aangesloten werden op electrische verlichting. Opvallend detail is het feit dat voor de bouw van dit huis het cement werd vermengd met melk in plaats van water. Het huis werd vanaf de oplevering bewoond door Paul Kruger (1825-1904). Kruger was President van de Zuid-Afrikaanse Republiek van 1883 tot 1900. Tijdens de Tweede Boerenoorlog vluchtte hij naar Nederland, zijn vrouw was te ziek om te reizen en overleed op 21 juli 1901 in Pretoria. Kruger leefde in ballingschap in Europa en overleed op 78 jarige leeftijd in Zwitserland. Na zijn dood is hij eerst begraven in Den Haag en later herbegraven op de Heroes Acre in Pretoria.
