Nederlands: Mancala wordt gespeeld op een bord van twee of vier rijen met kuiltjes en een groot aantal zaden, schelpen of steentjes. Het doel van het spel is om de meeste zaadjes te bemachtigen. De regels van het spel variëren per regio en zijn soms over grote afstanden verspreid. De regels van het spel bepalen ook het gebruik. Sommige varianten dienen vooral als tijdverdrijf terwijl andere worden gebruikt in kampioenschappen van mancala grootmeesters. Zowel mannen, vrouwen als kinderen spelen mancala, met twee maar soms ook met drie spelers of in teamverband.
Mancala is de verzamelnaam voor een bordspel dat is verspreid over grote delen van Afrika, Azië en Amerika. De vorm van de borden, de spelregels en het gebruik van mancala verschillen per gebied. De varianten van het spel zijn onder diverse namen bekend, zoals wari, bao, dakon en owela. De spelregels, het gebruik van het spel en ook de vorm van de borden veranderen per gebied. |
