Description
English: Advertisement in the Toronto Daily Star: "Canada is Our Country (and needs Meighen)". The ad was published the day before the 1921 federal election, promoting the Unionist Party lead by Arthur Meighen, a coalition of Conservatives and pro-conscription Liberals formed by Sir Robert Borden during the First World War. Meighen attempted to make the "Unionist" party a permanent alliance of Tories and Liberals by renaming it the National Liberal and Conservative Party, but this name change failed, and most Unionist Liberals either returned to the Liberal fold or joined the new Progressive Party.
