Title
Cannon Ball
Description
English: Small possible cannon ball found whilst metal detecting near to Amlwch. It is in good condition, and has a dark brown surface patina.

It may be the type of cannon ball fired by a falconet cannon (Bailey 2000, 94-5). These are 1.5lbs in weight and fired from cannon with a 2 inch (5.08 cm) bore (ibid.). It was not possible to accurately date the object, but if it is a cannon ball it is likely to date from the 18th century although some sources have suggested that these cannon were in use from the 16th century.

An alternative interpretation for the object is as a ball used to crush ore. This is also possible due to the proximity of the find spot to Mynydd Parys copper mine.
