"Pork Pie" cap- German Army - WW1 Collected by Lieutenant Rowland Percival Towle, Machine Gun Section, WW1 32551 2nd Lieutenant Rowland Percival Towle, NZ Specialists, NZ Engineers, WW1 Australian-born Rowland Percy Towle was employed as a solicitor in Auckland at the time of his enlistment as 2nd Lieutenant with the NZ Machine Gun Corps. He left New Zealand on 12 June 1917 with 27th Reinforcements Specialists Company, Machine-Gun Section on HMNZT Maunganui, destined for Plymouth, England. He brought back to New Zealand a collection of souvenirs later gifted to the Museum.
