Notes Outdoor Cape, Queen Alexandra Army Royal Naval Nursing Service (QARNNS) Belonged to Matron Elizabeth MJ Wakeham, RRC Elizabeth Wakeham emigrated from Ireland to New Zealand with her sister’s family in 1925. She trained at Seddon College and Auckland Hospital, but shortly after her graduation in 1931 returned to Ireland as her mother was ill. While there she joined the Royal Navy and became a sister with the QARRNS. At the outbreak of war she was posted to Alexandria and over the next five years served in England, Scotland and South Africa. After the war Elizabeth became superintendent in charge of the Royal Marine Hospital and then the Fleet Air Arm Hospital at various locations before retiring to New Zealand in 1957.
