[edit]

This image was composed by several DIN A3 sized copies from the large folio book of Jomard from the mid 19th century. But such photocopies have distortions in the length / wide ration. They did not match together in a very good way. I tried to fix it but that effort had some limit. Everywhere a cut or separation in the lines is visible, it is due to my composition.

The original of Jomard is perfect. I checked the remaining distortion by the circles and found it below 0.4 % of the radius. That is still about the value the best map projections fit some portolans. So for high accuracy work, think whether you can get a better copy from Jomards book. A good digital camera may not be able to do it any better but a direct scan with professional equipment may well do.

I checked the Jomard redrawing with high resolution photos of the Carte Pisane and found it of very good quality.
